Career Growth: Anna Andrade

Career Growth: Anna Andrade

We caught up with Anna Andrade following her recent promotion to Portfolio Manager of Operations in Southern California — below is our conversation:

PSB: Anna, tell us a bit about yourself and what attracted you to your first position at PS Business Parks (PSB)?

Anna: I was born and raised in San Diego. My husband and I are preparing to celebrate 25 years of marriage, and we’re the proud parents of two incredible young women. We love to spend quality time with our kids, our dance troop, hiking and paddle-boarding. I was drawn to PSB by a former employee who has since retired. She would often tell me how happy she was at her place of employment. One day I asked her if they were hiring, and the rest is history.

PSB: How long have you worked at PSB and what’s your first memory?

Anna: I have been with PSB for 22 years. My first memory was how welcoming that first visit with the San Diego team was. It instantly felt like a family, from the field offices to the home office. Over the years that feeling has only intensified.

PSB: You were recently promoted to Portfolio Manager, congratulations! How has PSB helped shape your career?

Anna: When I first joined PSB, I started at the front desk and had no experience in commercial real estate. However, what I did have was a penchant for customer service and an eagerness to learn and improve. Any time an opportunity arose I volunteered to help, and those opportunities not only allowed me to grow, but also meet colleagues from across the country. Because of the open-door policy here at PSB, I was also able to build relationships within the home office. Those relationships allowed me to learn more about the processes, as well as participate in training, and eventually help improve operational procedures. I have been exposed to acquisitions, dispositions, financial reporting, budgets, and construction in my time here. Every day brings new challenges, and I couldn’t find that more exhilarating.

PSB: Have you had any mentors at PSB? If so, how have they impacted your career?

Anna: I have had and continue to have phenomenal mentors at PSB. I couldn’t begin to express how invaluable those relationships have been and continue to be, both personally and professionally. I am forever grateful to so many for their humble inspiration and guidance over the years. The insight and encouragement that they’ve provided have certainly helped me advance in my career.

PSB: What’s the best advice you can give someone who just started their career?

Anna: Treat people the way you want to be treated. If you work hard and have the right attitude, you will reap the rewards not only in your professional life, but in your personal life as well.
