Elva recently achieved an important milestone when we celebrated her 35th Anniversary with PS Business Parks (PSB). We caught up with Elva following her milestone anniversary. Below is our conversation:
PSB: Elva, tell us a bit about yourself and your role at PSB.
Elva: I’m originally from the Bay Area and moved to Los Angeles in 1980. I am married to my high school sweetheart of 42 years and we have three sons. My career started in corporate accounting and I later transferred into commercial real estate in 1992. I’m currently a senior property manager for the Los Angeles portfolio.
PSB: How long have you worked at PSB and what’s your first memory?
Elva: I have worked at PSB for 35 years. I started as a payroll coordinator at the home office on May 27th, 1986. Six year later, I was given with the opportunity of transfer out to the field as an assistant property manager for the Los Angeles portfolio to manage approximately 600,000 rentable square feet of office, flex, and industrial space. My first PSB memory has to be the people. From day one, everyone has been friendly and helpful. I felt at home from the very beginning.
PSB: Over the years, what has been your favorite part about working at PSB?
Elva: My favorite part of working at PSB has been the great opportunity I got to make a lifelong career in commercial real estate an enjoyable one, surrounded by experienced individuals willing to share their knowledge across all levels of this business, which has also helped me diversify my skills along the way.
PSB: What is the best career lesson you have learned so far?
Elva: Always be open to challenges and opportunities. For example, throughout the years I have had the opportunity to manage and lease every property in the Los Angeles portfolio, including new acquisitions, allowing me to be exposed to different product types and gain lots of experience.
PSB: What advice do you have for other peers in your profession?
Elva: My advice to others will be to always have the right attitude. Learn as much as you can from others, build your skills and the doors will open up for you.
